Maybe

Maybe

Oh, humanity, may we remember how we looked

At a place where we knelt by a river to take our first drink

We saw our reflection and marvelled at such handiwork

Then, looking up performed this very first act, we worshipped

We acknowledged that our ultimate desire will be for this

Helpless to it, we would seek to adorn and consecrate others

Making faint, halting steps at achieving this to no avail

We would long for A Presence from which we came

No footsteps as one of a kind, like yours or mine

When tempted to think that you're all alone

Look around, then up, see the sun and moon embraced, celestial bodies aligned

They, like all, worship The One, before Whom we prostrate ourselves

Trust not in fellow creatures of like transient needs

As we approach each day with new meaning

Consider this essential to our very being, all can wait

We are here, so live the best of it until requested elsewhere,
